I just fixed my scanner by kicking it rather hard. I didn't think that method actually worked..

Worked on my old CRT monitor too. Well, with more of the smacking than the kicking. But anyway.

Worked for my old stereo. Every time it decided it didn't want to play a song, or cd, I smashed it solidly right in the center. And it went "whiiirrrr click click click INSERT MUSIC HERE".

I wish that worked with my new stereo :S

Since I believe yours is a Canoscan like mine, you didn't lock the scanner head for moving did you? I always forget to unlock it before plugging it in, right up till the grinding noises start.

My Scanner is EXACTLY like Robin's. It's a canoscan 3000 ex and never done me wrong yet!
